A geosynthetic liner is currently being installed on the walls of the Tamala Park landfill. This liner holds the waste within the landfill area, protecting the surround environment.
Modern landfills are designed to safely hold deposited waste and protect the environment from any harmful substances that may exist. This is done by lining the landfill cells with impermeable layers of natural or synthetic material. Tamala park has a multi layered lined floor comprising natural and synthetic products.
The current hole has an initial liner made from a 3metre thick layer of clay up the wall.
A geosythetic liner (made of a sandwich of six layers of different materials) is now being installed to complete the wall lining.
This works is expected to be completed in the coming months.
